about me

I'm a self-taught artist living in North Cornwall. In 2013, I started the year with a challenge to complete a painting a week, and post it on my blog onepaintingaweek. I successfully completed the challenge and gained an immediate following. Since then, I've continued to draw and paint the local landscape, whilst venturing into other subject areas such as animal and flower studies, and larger-scale works.
I often work in mixed media (acrylic, collage, inks, charcoal, oil pastels) to create vibrant, richly textured paintings which capture the essence and presence of the subject. My inspiration comes from the Cornish land and sea, which I've been drawing since childhood, and also from painters such as Joan Eardley and Kyffin Williams, who drew their subject matter from the detailed study of their locality. Cornwall offers a rich seam to fuel a life-long investigation of its rocks and cliffs, shores and valleys.
I exhibit locally and nationally, and my work is in private collections worldwide. I've exhibited frequently in the London Menier Gallery with the National Society of Painters, Sculptors & Printmakers, and have recently joined the Art of Gwynngala group, a selection of local artists exhibiting in North Cornwall. My work has also been featured in House & Garden Magazine.
